What actually is the skincare trend ?

Well in recent days what we have seen is amazing that there has been a huge rise in a very specific form of self-care and that is none other than skin-care. What can be reason though ? ever wonder ? The answer to that is one and only ‘social media’.

Social medias and the filtered lives of people on the internet has literally brainwashed everyone to go into the skincare domain. And as we all know that majority of people who use these form of medias are generally people of the younger age. And young people are more quick to become insecure of anything especially if it has the tendency to effect their social status or how others perceive them.

And a glittering, clear and moon-like face is something that will simply make them more attractive in the eyes of opposite genders, What else does young people want ? I dont think there’s anything that is more desired than to be the prince charming of your school or a slaying baddie i guess.

And as the total industry market capitalisation is more than a 100 billion dollars. So the companies never reallly lacked fund to adverstise skincare products. According to an article of Stasista :

”L'Oréal Paris led the U.S. personal care market by advertising spending in 2021, having invested 200 million dollars. Its parent L'Oréal, owner of other popular beauty brands such as Maybelline, Kiehl's, and NYX, has been spending over two billion U.S. dollars in advertising every year since 2017.”

So almost no-one is prone to not fall into the trend of skincare. But what actually is skin-care and how to do it, ever wondered ? Well, We got you covered.

The most basic and trendy one consists mainly of four things.

  1. Cleanse
  2. Moisturise
  3. Sun-Protection
  4. Repairing agent/Serum ( Optional )

Let’s dive deeper into all of them.

  1. Cleanse : Using a cleanser is an essential step in any skincare routine as it effectively removes dirt, oil, and impurities from the skin, helping to prevent breakouts, clogged pores, and dullness. A good cleanser should be gentle yet effective, suitable for your skin type, and ideally contain ingredients that nourish and protect the skin. Look for cleansers with ingredients like salicylic acid or benzoyl peroxide for acne-prone skin, hyaluronic acid for hydration, and antioxidants like vitamin C or green tea extract for added protection against environmental damage. Some reputable brands to consider include Cetaphil, Neutrogena, La Roche-Posay, CeraVe, and Clinique, known for their quality formulations catering to various skin concerns. Always remember to choose a cleanser that suits your specific skin type and concerns for optimal results.

  2. Moisturise : Moisturizer is super important for your skin! It keeps your skin hydrated, soft, and protected from all the stuff that can make it dry or damaged. When picking a moisturizer, choose one that fits your skin type. Look for ingredients like hyaluronic acid, glycerin, and ceramides for hydration, and things like vitamin E and niacinamide to help your skin stay healthy and repair itself. Some good brands to check out are Olay, Aveeno, Cetaphil, Clinique, and La Mer. Just find one that feels good on your skin and stick with it!

  3. Sun-protection : Sun protection is essential for safeguarding your skin from the harmful effects of the sun's UV rays. When choosing a moisturizer with sun protection, opt for one with broad-spectrum SPF of at least 30. Look for ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which offer physical protection, as well as chemical filters like avobenzone and octocrylene, which absorb UV radiation. Brands such as Neutrogena, CeraVe, Aveeno, and La Roche-Posay offer effective moisturizers with added sun protection. Incorporating a moisturizer with SPF into your daily skincare routine helps prevent sunburn, premature aging, and reduces the risk of skin cancer, ensuring your skin stays healthy and protected year-round.

  4. Repairing agent/Serum : Serums are powerhouse products designed to address specific skincare concerns, acting as potent repairing agents for your skin. These concentrated formulas contain active ingredients that penetrate deep into the skin, delivering targeted benefits. When selecting a serum, consider your skin's needs—whether it's reducing fine lines and wrinkles, brightening dark spots, or improving overall texture and tone.

Look for serums with ingredients like vitamin C, which brightens and evens out skin tone, or retinol, known for its anti-aging properties and ability to stimulate collagen production. Hyaluronic acid is another key ingredient to look for, as it deeply hydrates the skin, plumping up fine lines and wrinkles.

Reputable brands known for their effective serums include The Ordinary, Skinceuticals, Drunk Elephant, and Sunday Riley. These brands offer a variety of serums targeting different concerns, ensuring there's something for everyone. Incorporating a serum into your skincare routine after cleansing and before moisturizing can help enhance the overall health and appearance of your skin, providing it with the nourishment and repair it needs.

But there is a catch to all of that.

If you're dealing with severe skin problems, it's crucial to consult a doctor or dermatologist before trying any new skincare products or treatments. Conditions like severe acne, eczema, psoriasis, or persistent skin irritation may require professional evaluation and guidance for effective management. A dermatologist can provide personalized recommendations tailored to your specific skin concerns, ensuring you receive the appropriate treatment and avoid exacerbating the issue. Delaying medical attention for severe skin problems may lead to prolonged discomfort, worsening symptoms, or potential complications. By seeking professional help, you can address the root cause of your skin issues and embark on a suitable treatment plan to achieve healthier, clearer skin in the long run.
